Rebecca La Marre is a Canadian artist, writer and lecturer. She is currently based in Montreal, QC. Her activity situates art in the field of language and uses multiple registers of production, spanning publishing and performing. She treats language as a technology and as a material substance. Her projects test how the intersection of language and technology affects a person’s ability to inhabit their subjectivity, and how it can limit or expand their ability to be who they are.
Her performances and books have been exhibited and distributed internationally, including The Serpentine Gallery (London), PS1 MOMA (New York) and the Darling Foundry (Montreal). She has been a recipient of the International Development Fund from the Arts Council, England, the Goldsmiths Annual Fund and the Starter Company Award from the Federal Government of Canada.
